Training packages

We are pleased to offer two training packages themed around the benefits of using nature and outdoor environments to support dementia care in residential settings.

What's in our nature for activity coordinators, residential care and day centre staff.
Is nature in your home for care home managers/owners, day centre managers.

Training is based upon first hand experience in working with people living with dementia and backed is up with strong academic reseach. Our project Creative Spaces has been connecting people with dementia and the outdoors for over seven years.

Prices start from £300 for half a day training at your care home or centre, training as many people as you require.

 

This training session has been designed as an introduction to the benefits of using nature and outdoor environments in supporting dementia care in residential settings.   

The half day course includes examples of research-based evidence of the impact of nature on health and wellbeing, practical activities to inspire greater use of residential gardens and explores simple solutions to some of the barriers that prevent/reduce access to outside spaces.

Relates to the Dementia Core Skills Education and Training Framework (DoH) 2015 Tier 2.

The course outcomes support:

  • Greater understanding for individuals to maintain good physical and mental health
  • Greater understanding of physical activity in maintaining individual independence and abilities
  • Skills that enable individuals to engage in psycho-social interventions

This training package is designed for care home managers and owners as an introduction to the benefits of using nature in creating positive environments and enhancing the quality of life for people with dementia.

The half day course includes group discussions, presentations and practical exercises. 

The course outcomes will support:

  • Leadership in transforming dementia care in residential settings
  • Contributions to the development of practices that meet the needs of individuals living with dementia
  • Improved knowledge of the evidence of nature’s effectiveness in enhancing the wellbeing of people living with dementia
