Quality of experience
No one, as far as we know, ever got themselves into their car, drove
for an hour, got out of the car and into their wheelchair to visit a place
just because it was accessible.
Accessibility is not the whole story. Not by a long chalk. Accessibility
has to be looked at in parallel with quality of experience. Eventually
the whole world will be made accessible (okay, maybe not in our lifetime,
and maybe not the whole world) but until then we have to make
choices about which bits to do first. For public spaces that are used
for leisure, places that give high quality experiences should be top of
the list, but how to we define a quality experience?
Consultancy
Sensory Trust has developed a range of tools and techniques that allows
land owners and managers, along with visitor groups and practitioners,
to assess the quality of experience that their sites offer. The results
of these activities can be used to plan access work and improvements in
the quality of experience that public spaces offer.
