LEAF Community Allotments, Sheffield

A project with Local Enterprises Around Food (LEAF) in Sheffield.

The Sensory Trust and Countryside Equality Marketing are preparing an Access Plan for the Norwood site in north Sheffield. The Access Plan will help facilitate the sites compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

A detailed audit of the site has been undertaken and proposals drawn up for ways in which accessibility may be improved at various points.

The Access Plan draws upon past interventions by Sheffield Allotments Department to create accessible allotment plots at the request of disabled clients. As LEAF trials different interventions to improve access on the site the success of particular interventions and the experience of users will be recorded. The lessons learned at Norwood will inform improvements of the accessibility of the Council managed allotments across their 74 sites and 3,200 plots.
