Site review

In many visitor attractions such as the grounds of historic buildings, open-air museums, parks and gardens there are many barriers that can prevent people from visiting. Some of these barriers are obvious, some are less so, and it can be a frustrating experience to spend time and money on access work only to find that it has little impact on the overall visitor profile.

What is required is a detailed overview of the whole picture of access; a way to see how all the pieces of the access puzzle fit together, and how an integrated approach that takes in transport, information, quality of experience and physical access.

Sensory Trust can undertake a thorough review of your site and will look at accessibility and quality of experience for visitors and potential visitors. Using tools specially developed by us during fifteen years of working with landscape and excluded groups.

Our detailed reports cover:

  • Organisational and visitor expectations
  • Off site and promotional information
  • Transport links
  • Arrival experience
  • On-site transport
  • Toilets
  • Entrances to facilites (for example, cafes or other buildings)
  • On-site information
  • Wayfinding
  • Interpretation
  • Sensory richness and quality of experience
  • Routes
  • Gradients, surfaces and steps
  • Seating and shelter
  • Other features (natural, historic and visitor-related)
  • Departure
