Capital Woodlands Project
Sensory Trust commissioned by 'Trees for Cities' to develop access
reviews
The Sensory team are extremely pleased to have been asked to be
part of this exciting project, which is happening across London.
The Capital Woodlands project aims to raise appreciation of London's
woodlands, increase public benefit and participation and demonstrate
good practice by undertaking access, biodiversity, community and
training work both in six 'flagship' woodlands and across the capital
through a pan-London programme.
The project is currently in its planning phase during which extensive
consultation and research is being undertaken prior to the submission
of a bid of just under £1 million to the Heritage Lottery
Fund next year. The Sensory Trust has a key role in the project;
undertaking access reviews at the six flagship sites, working closely
with the Project Planning Officer, site managers and local community
groups, and facilitating the preparation of access plans at each
site.
The Capital Woodlands Project is the central tool for the delivery
of the London Woodlands Habitat Action Plan, part of the London
Biodiversity Action Plan. The project is managed by the London Biodiversity
Partnership and is supported by a large range of organisations including
the GLA, Forestry Commission, English Nature, Trees for Cities,
London Wildlife Trust, Peabody Trust and five London Boroughs.
