Wateraid Exhibit at Eden
Lynsey
Robinson (Inclusive Designer)
The Sensory Trust, in partnership with the Eden designer-makers,
has been involved in the redesign of the drinking fountains in the
biomes at the Eden Project. The original drinking fountains were
unusable by a large number of people, including wheelchair users
and small children.
In keeping with Eden's messaging policy, the new drinking fountains
are also used to tell the story of drinking water. Sponsored by
Wateraid, the new drinking
fountain design is in the form of a water pump that is, for many
people in the world, the only source of clean water. The resulting
form means that wheelchair users and children can now easily operate
the drinking fountain.
As well as the usability consultation, the Sensory Trust have also
developed signage and interpretation at each water point for people
with learning difficulties using the Widgit
Rebus symbol set.
