Designing Accessible Information at Bishop's Forum
Inspiring, challenging, motivating, developing
The Sensory Trust has worked with Bishop's Forum (soon to be BF Adventure)
to design accessible information as part of the development of their adventure
quarry. The development was made possible through support from the Aggregates
Levy Sustainability Fund.
BF Adventure accommodates participants of all ages, backgrounds and abilities
who want to challenge themselves through the outdoor activities they offer.
Whether it is canoeing, rock climbing, archery or one of the many other
activities available BF Adventure helps individuals develop the necessary
skills to achieve.

Each activity is designed to suit the needs of the groups or individuals
taking part. People visit BF Adventure for different reasons; through
summer clubs, school days out, programmes of children in care, referrals
from social services or even corporate days out. Whatever brings you to
BF Adventure you will find the same reception from its expert team, they
are highly skilled in working with people to bring out the best in them
however that needs to be done.
Inspired by the former Bishop of Truro, the Right Rev Peter Mumford,
The Bishop's Forum was set up as a charity for the young people of Cornwall.
Since inception the Charity has expanded its scope to welcome local community
use of our facilities.
"Our mission is to Inspire, Challenge and Motivate people to develop
their Life Skills to bring about positive change."
With the funds awarded by the Aggregates Levy Sustainability fund BF
Adventure have redeveloped their adventure quarry to include accessible
rope bridges, floating pontoons, an outdoor teaching space and a zip
wire. It has all been done to an excellent standard creating a fully
accessible resource which was demonstrated at their launch last month.
The
young people who work closely with BF Adventure opened the ceremony
with a fantastic display of their skills by carrying the over-sized scissors
needed to cut the ribbon around the quarry. They tackled bridges on
bikes, canoed across the lake chased by pirates, scaled climbing walls
and finally zipped down the wire to hand over the scissors to special
guest Olympic rower Ed Coode. Accompanied of course by the Mission Impossible
theme! It was a great event to celebrate the success of the meaningful
work they do and the new facility they have created.
BF Adventure is one of those places armed with the most amazing members
of staff who really do make a difference and have a real passion for what
they do. It was a pleasure to work with them on the development of some
of their new information including a new map for use on site and as a
download.
