Professor Lora Fleming

Health and environment research

Prof Lora Fleming is Director of the European Centre for Environment and Human Health, an international research centre that is based in Truro, Cornwall, and part of the University of Exeter Medical School. She leads a world-class programme of research exploring the connections between environment and human health.

Lora  is a board certified occupational and environmental health physician and epidemiologist with over 30 years’ experience in environment and occupational exposures and human health. Her work includes cutting edge research on Oceans and Human Health, and Healthy/Sustainable Workplaces.

Lora is Chair of Oceans, Epidemiology and Human Health at the University of Exeter and Professor Emerita in both the Miller School of Medicine and the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences of the University of Miami (Miami, FL USA) where she was Co Director of the NSF NIEHS Oceans and Human Health Centre. Her work on outreach and educational materials relates to the human health effects of marine and freshwater natural toxins and occupational health issues.

Lora is a Member the US National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) to the NIEHS Gulf Oil Study, and the Horizons 2020 Advisory Group on Health, Demographic Change and Wellbeing. She is also an ASPIRE Principle Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
