Dr Kate Braithwaite MBE

Currently Director of Operations at UnLtd (The Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs) with responsibility for the frontline teams working across the UK and the delivery of substantial award programmes.  Kate previously worked for Carnegie UK Trust as Director of the influential Rural Development Programme.

Prior to this she was Chief Executive of Voluntary Action Cumbria (the county’s Rural Community Council) which then had 60 full and part time staff, running EU Objective 5B and LEADER programmes, social enterprise support and a thriving women’s business network. In the past Kate chaired Voluntary Sector North West and was a Business Link and Training and Enterprise Council Board member. 

Kate was awarded a PhD at Newcastle University in Rural Development and has previously ran an environmental unit and residential management training courses at Brathay Hall on the edge of Windermere, having  escaped from teaching – and at heart she’ll always be a geographer.
