Sensory Trust aimsBetter connection between people and placeMany social issues have at their root a disengagement from society. Reconnecting people with the place they live, and with the communities that share the place is a primary concern of the Sensory Trust. Any improvement to the outdoor environment can only be sustainable if it has at its heart a mechanism for re-engaging people who are currently excluded from public space. More accessible environments for everyoneOutdoor public places are where much of society takes place. They are where we rub shoulders with people we do not know, with cultures, backgrounds and opinions that we do not necessarily share. To be excluded from those places is to be excluded from taking part in and contributing to society. Sensory Trust promotes, supports and undertakes the creation of more inclusive public spaces and better quality, more engaging environments for everyone. Increased professional awarenessFor these improvements to be sustainable we have to embed new ways of thinking about public space and about how people want to use it. Sensory Trust helps planners, designers, policy-makers and managers gain an improved understanding of the issues surrounding inclusion and outdoor spaces. We do this by:
